WELCOME to The Chateau and Tudor Rooms, Saugerties Bed and Breakfast, 122 Burt Street, Saugerties, New York, 12477

A premier Saugerties bed and breakfast in Ulster County’s Hudson Valley
I LOVE NY SPECIAL FALL PACKAGE, SEPT. 15 to NOV. 15 (see RATES or call for details)

Bordering on the Esopus Creek with the majestic Catskill Mountains as the backdrop, you will find a natural retreat on this secluded waterfront estate in New York’s Hudson Valley. Eight private acres of manicured gardens, sculpture park, rolling lawns, wild fields, forests, and a Zen-inspired pond (with an outstanding sculpture by one of the owners) — all lead the poetic wanderer to the artist-designed gazebo on the shore of the peaceful Esopus where swans and blue herons and the bald eagle glide by. Woods and water are all to be seen for miles, because this stunning property is bordered by Saugerties’ nature conservancy, The Esopus Bend Nature Preserve… A watchful eye will be rewarded with sightings of beavers, minks, the fox, coyote, white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, and many, many more of nature’s delights.

The Sculpture Park

The art connoisseur will enjoy the internationally acclaimed outdoor sculptures sited along the wooded paths. The magical Turtle Isle is the owners’ private, two-acre Sculpture Park that continues to be a vision in the making, with new sculptures added to the collection every month. Turtle Isle offers an inspiring overview of sculptural styles from the earth-sculpture movement of the sixties to minimalist and abstract, and to the present-day imaginative figurative works. Materials range from native wood to forged steel and found objects.

Hidden back behind tall pines lies a quiet respite far from the busy noise of life’s bustle, yet within walking distance of Saugerties Historic District. This lovely Tudor estate, built in the Roaring Twenties by prominent Manhattan architect Henry Corse, boasts a pond and over five hundred feet of private riverfront and two very different rooms for guests, all ideally suited to please the discriminating traveler… For those of you who yearn to visit Europe, The Chateau Room is your trip to Paris, The Tudor Room is an English castle retreat… (Remember to click on the individual listings for more details about those beautiful accommodations!)…. In warm weather, a gourmet breakfast is served out of doors in the Italianate loggia overlooking the reflecting pool…. In the cooler months, the manor’s elegant Early American dining room is open for hearty breakfasts — with a roaring wood fire in the fireplace — and always there are those awesome views of the Catskill Mountains!

Comments from recent guests at The Chateau and Tudor Rooms, Saugerties Bed and Breakfast:

“We had a spectacular time here. Thank you so much for this beautiful place, the delicious breakfasts, and warm reception. This was a most special anniversary getaway, and we hope to return soon!”

“Your unique, classy, and quiet property is spectacular. We enjoyed the sculptures nestled in the forest on the property. We felt so lucky to sit on the patio and gaze out to the mountains and the Esopus River view. Your breakfast could win an award — simply delicious. Thanks for making our stay SO special.”

“The setting is beyond words, and what lucky people you are to live in such an enchanted wood… Sharing this beautiful estate with others allows others to enjoy the beauty of the Hudson Valley, and for that I applaud you.” - Nancy Frey

Art: The Sculpture Park can be your first stop on an art tour showcasing the massive outdoor sculpture at Opus 40 (10-minute drive), then you can drive west to Woodstock (20-minute drive) for a look at the hippie-flavored lifestyle and fine art or east to Bard College (20-minute drive) to see some trend-of-the-moment international art.
Galleries in Kingston (15-minute drive) offer a beguiling variety, too.

Hiking: The gorgeous private waterfront leads directly into The Esopus Bend Nature Preserve, a 150-acre nature conservancy containing meandering trails and spectacular views all along the Esopus “creek” (it is actually wider than most rivers!). The hike can last hours and reward you with multiple bird sightings, animal tracking adventures, and fifty-odd varieties of butterflies. The terrain varies from steep hills to lush wetlands. (See below for Calendar of Events)

Also nearby (a 5-minute drive): Saugerties Lighthouse, a half-mile easy walk. This is a must-see for all lovers of the Hudson River. Bring a picnic and savor the look and feel of being on a boat in the Hudson, because the Lighthouse juts way out into the river, surrounded by a sandy beach and tall reeds.

Catskill Mountain hikes are within a 20-minute drive. For more leisurely walking, the park-like setting of Poet’s Walk in Red Hook is a 15-minute drive.

NOTE: Ulster County has scored an “A” for best air quality from the American Lung Association!
Dutchess and Columbia counties score a low “C.”

Antiques: Saugerties Village (3-minute drive) is a must-visit, for variety and reasonable prices. For the intrepid, there is the vast Warren Street in Hudson (30-minute drive). Also Kingston (10-minute drive), or Rhinebeck (15-minute drive).

HITS Saugerties (Horse Shows in the Sun): late spring and all summer long, riders and thoroughbreds descend on Saugerties.

Food: the Hudson Valley is known as a gourmet paradise, and Saugerties boasts exceptional dining, from 4-star bistros to cozy pubs, all within a 3-minute drive from The Chateau and Tudor Rooms. These restaurants feature food from local farms. Some top restaurants: Cafe Tamayo, Miss Lucy’s, Red Onion.

In the fall: the crowd-pleasing Garlic Festival Saugerties.

Ice-Skating and Tennis: Saugerties boasts a large indoor ice-skating rink (5-minute drive)
and a year-round pro tennis facility called Total Tennis (10-minute drive)

Touring the Hudson River Valley mansions in Dutchess County (well, you may find that your Tudor or Chateau room is as beautiful as any Vanderbilt!).

Strongly recommended: Olana (40-minute drive north), the queen of the Hudson Valley museum estates, once the home of the renowned nineteenth-century painter Frederic Church.

Doing the Wine Trail from Ulster County to Dutchess. The decorated wines are in Millbrook, but that shouldn’t stop you from sipping the vino all over the region.

Pick-your-own seasonal fruit and vegetables at the local farms.

Saugerties Farmers Market (a 3-minute drive) is where locals gather to shop in the summer
every Saturday.

Calendar of Events
for Esopus Bend Nature Preserve
(www.esopuscreekconservancy.org)

August 17 Kayak and Canoe Tour
